Compare towing software by the complete call: account rules, locations, vehicle, driver status times, charges and invoice. Impounds need a separate custody and release test, including storage start and inventory history. Towbook, Autura and Clearplan are options to investigate.
A tow call can become a dispatch, impound, storage-fee calculation and account invoice. Compare these connected records. Roadside calls, private-property impounds and motor-club jobs can have different fields and billing rules.
What the software costs—and where your margin can improve.
Start with the bill and one costly workflow. The comparison is straightforward: recurring software costs you can actually remove, minus the hosting, AI, integrations and upkeep a replacement needs. Time saved is a separate gain, and only becomes margin when the business can use it.
A source-priced scenario, not a claim about your invoice. Check required modules, usage fees and your negotiated terms.
A focused tool · under your control
Pay for the parts this workflow needs.
One time: map the rules, build, test edge cases, move only the data needed and train the people who use it.
Each month: affordable hosting, coding-AI usage, any database or integrations, backups and maintenance. Price these for the actual application; a $0 or low hosting tier is not the total cost.
You control: the code repository, domain, data and service accounts. Someone on your side owns updates, access, recovery and support.
MarginVendor costs removed − the replacement’s full monthly operating cost.
Admin timeFirst target: Account-specific intake. Capture account, locations, vehicle, service, priority and billing rules for motor-club and private calls.
Business valueDurable, documented margin can strengthen a business; buyers still assess risk and whether someone else can run the workflow.
The exact replacement cost depends on scope and usage. Bring your invoice and one frustrating task; we’ll map what can stay, what could be owned and the costs to verify.
Per the terms, a downgrade takes effect only in the first billing cycle more than 30 days after written notice; the pricing FAQ instead describes a pro-rated charge or refund on plan changes.
Records must be exported before access ends; afterwards they may not be retrievable, and cancelled accounts become eligible for deletion 180 days later.
These terms appear in the same research category. Check your specific workflow before treating products as interchangeable.

Fit notes are our assessment of the linked vendor descriptions, not hands-on product reviews. Feature sources checked Oct 2, 2026; pricing records below retain their own dates.
Use synthetic vehicle details. Check behavior against your contracts and qualified local compliance advice.
Enter a roadside call with account, pickup, destination, vehicle and instructions.
Assign a driver and record dispatch, arrival, hookup and completion; reassign and inspect history.
Create a separate impound with identifiers, lot and storage time. Scan it during a lot check.
Record release and payment, then compare release history, receipt and invoice. This is not a statement of legal requirements.
Reconcile active calls and stored vehicles before cutover
Request exports of accounts and rate tables, calls, assignments and status times, vehicles, impounds, lot locations, storage charges, releases, invoices and payment references. Match active calls and stored vehicles by stable IDs and VIN/plate where possible. Reconcile open balances, photos and notices. Verify motor-club credentials and integrations directly before switching.
Where a first build could stop
A custom intake or customer-status page may feed a verified dispatch system. Replacing dispatch, custody, notices or release authorization needs separate proof and qualified review; do not put a general website form in charge of a vehicle release.
Workflow documentation checked Oct 2, 2026. Pricing tables elsewhere on this page retain their own capture dates. The demo scripts and migration guidance are our proposed evaluation method, not hands-on vendor reviews.
For towing & recovery, our worked example runs $319 a month, which is $3,828 a year. A website-related price point in the research is $210 a month; check whether it is a plan rate or a separate fee. 29 of 46 vendors have quote-only pricing in our research.
See the worked example: 4-truck towing company, ~600 calls/month, wants dispatch + impound + website integration
Dispatch plans climb with calls, not trucks: Towbook's tiers run $109, $209, $319 and $429 for 250 to 1,500 calls, and each extra company name or division is another $109. Per-job charges fill the gaps: TowBase bills every service order on top of its $49.99 plan, and TowStack bills each tow over the plan's allowance. The bigger dispatch and impound systems, including Autura, Ranger SST and TOPS, publish no prices, and Autura's terms make all remaining fees due at once on termination.
What to keep
Keep dispatch, motor club billing and impound tracking. Motor club connections and lien notices run on integrations a tow company can't reasonably replicate.
What to verify
Ask providers to demonstrate this workflow using your edge cases. Check which plan includes each step, what costs extra and how your records can be exported.

Towing Digital
Quote only
Digital marketing for towing companies: local SEO, website design, Google Ads, lead generation, reputation and social media.
These agencies appear in the business-category research but do not yet have a full software pricing profile. Rates are shown only when verified from the provider's own source.
Test account-specific intake, locations, vehicle, driver, event times, charges and invoice. For impounds, verify custody, storage start, lot checks and release history separately.
Can generic field-service software replace towing software?
Only after proving motor-club dispatch, account rates, impound inventory, storage fees, release records and required integrations.
How much does Towbook cost?
Towbook lists Basic at $109, Professional at $209, Ultimate+ at $319 and Enterprise at $429 a month, set by calls completed: 250, 500, 1,000 and 1,500. Website integration and review links start at Ultimate+, and each extra company or location is $109.
How much does Autura (TRAXERO) cost?
Autura doesn't publish prices for Dispatch Anywhere or TOPS; it quotes by fleet size and features. Its terms make payment obligations non-cancelable, and on termination all remaining fees become due at once.
Can I cancel Towbook anytime?
Yes. It's month to month with no cancellation fee; you contact Towbook to stop billing. Monthly charges already paid aren't refunded, and a copy of your data goes through a data request policy that lets Towbook charge a fee.
