Electrical contractor software: dispatch, estimates and job costing

$29–$4,995 / monthpublished plan rates · not a complete billSee price evidence ↓

Electrical contractors may run residential service calls, commercial jobs and multi-day projects from one office. Compare software by following a call through dispatch, estimate approval, materials, field completion and job cost; service-call tools and project controls may not cover the same work.

The cost case · Electrical contractors

What the software costs—and where your margin can improve.

Start with the bill and one costly workflow. The comparison is straightforward: recurring software costs you can actually remove, minus the hosting, AI, integrations and upkeep a replacement needs. Time saved is a separate gain, and only becomes margin when the business can use it.

Current software · researched prices

Electrical contractors software runs $29 to $4,995 a month across the 8 vendors that publish prices. 48 of 90 vendors have quote-only pricing in our research.

Published starting prices are not a like-for-like quote. Confirm the plans, seats, add-ons, payment fees and setup your workflow requires.

A focused tool · under your control

Pay for the parts this workflow needs.

One time: map the rules, build, test edge cases, move only the data needed and train the people who use it.

Each month: affordable hosting, coding-AI usage, any database or integrations, backups and maintenance. Price these for the actual application; a $0 or low hosting tier is not the total cost.

You control: the code repository, domain, data and service accounts. Someone on your side owns updates, access, recovery and support.

MarginVendor costs removed − the replacement’s full monthly operating cost.
Admin timeFirst target: Service-call priority. Enter a same-day outage and a future panel estimate. Verify priority, promised window, assigned skill and customer update.
Business valueDurable, documented margin can strengthen a business; buyers still assess risk and whether someone else can run the workflow.

The exact replacement cost depends on scope and usage. Bring your invoice and one frustrating task; we’ll map what can stay, what could be owned and the costs to verify.

Service-call priorityCan dispatch distinguish a safety-sensitive outage from a routine estimate?Enter a same-day outage and a future panel estimate. Verify priority, promised window, assigned skill and customer update.
Skills and credentialsCan assignments reflect technician qualifications and crew availability?Assign a specialized task to an unqualified technician and check whether the system warns or blocks it.
Estimate and materialsCan approved scope and material costs be traced into the job?Present two options, approve one and record a material substitution. Compare authorized price and job cost.
Multi-day progressCan the office track labor, purchase orders, change orders and completion across project days?Split a commercial job across three visits and reconcile hours, materials and approved changes at closeout.

Your demo script

Schedule one outage and one panel project

This synthetic workload checks how the same system handles rapid response and planned electrical work.

  1. Log a service call for a partial outage with access instructions. Schedule an estimator for a panel replacement at a second address.
  2. Assign a qualified technician to the outage and send an arrival notice. Record diagnosis, approved repair scope and parts used.
  3. Convert the panel estimate into a three-visit project with a material order, crew assignment and a customer-approved change.
  4. Close both jobs and compare labor, material, tax, invoice and accounting records. Identify which information required duplicate entry.

Plan a controlled data move

Import customers and sites, open calls, estimates, project stages, pricebook items, technician credentials, purchase orders, agreements, balances and tax settings. Reconcile a sample service call and a multi-day job before changing the dispatch board or accounting handoff.

Where a first build could stop

Software can organize schedules, approvals and costs; it does not replace licensed electrical judgment, code compliance, permit review or safety procedures. Keep qualified staff responsible for work authorization and required inspections.

What does the software cost?

Electrical contractors software runs $29 to $4,995 a month across the 8 vendors that publish prices. 48 of 90 vendors have quote-only pricing in our research.

Where the money goes

Estimating software is licensed per seat and kept alive with maintenance: Trimble sells Estimation MEP per user on an annual plan, and ConEst's terms make you pay for the whole lapsed period to reinstate maintenance. Service-side platforms like ServiceTitan, FieldEdge and Workiz quote privately and lean on term contracts, with ServiceTitan charging all remaining payments if you leave early. The website is usually a third bill, from a marketing agency or an add-on like Tradify's $12 Instant Website.

What to keep

Keep your estimating database, the takeoff tool and whatever runs dispatch and card payments. Material pricing feeds and labor units are licensed data, not something to rebuild.

What to verify

Ask providers to demonstrate this workflow using your edge cases. Check which plan includes each step, what costs extra and how your records can be exported.

Questions owners ask

Can one system cover service calls and electrical construction?

Possibly, but test dispatch, multi-day scheduling, materials, change orders and job costing separately. A service-call calendar alone does not establish project-control fit.

What should electricians test in a software demo?

Use one urgent call and one project with staged visits, a material change, customer approval and accounting handoff.

How much does Housecall Pro cost for electricians?

Housecall Pro lists Basic at $79, Essentials at $189 and MAX at $329 a month, with lower headline prices that last one to three months. MAX includes 8 users, each extra user is $35 a month, and the Websites add-on has no published price.

How much does ConEst IntelliBid cost?

ConEst doesn't publish prices; you request a demo. The license comes with a yearly maintenance fee the vendor resets with 90 days' notice, and if maintenance lapses you pay the annual fees for the whole lapsed period to reinstate it.

Can I cancel ServiceTitan early?

Only by paying out the term. ServiceTitan's terms set a termination fee equal to all remaining payments, and the subscription renews automatically unless you give 30 days' written notice before the renewal date.
